Abstract

The increasing mismatch between academic outcomes and industry requirements has raised concerns about the employability of graduates, particularly in emerging economies. Employability, defined as the capability to secure, maintain, and transition between jobs, depends on technical skills, cognitive abilities, and linguistic proficiency. Recent research, however, shows that more than 80% of Indian graduates lack employability as a result of out-of-date curricula, theoretical teaching approaches, and inadequate communication abilities. This paper examines the challenges contributing to unemployability and proposes a structured framework
for skill development involving awareness, practice, feedback, reflection, and refinement. By emphasising the importance of effective communication, English proficiency, and practical engagement, this research outlines strategies for bridging the employability gap.
